Other Details to Note

Historic Evergreen Cemetery A twenty-seven acre historical cemetery with a winding creek full of turtles, a pond and a fountain, which attracts a host of beautiful birds. The azaleas blooming in Spring are breathtaking. Large oaks dripping with Spanish moss give this peaceful spot Southern charm. Established in 1886 outside the city limits when St. Augustine closed its small urban graveyards due to overcrowding. Evergreen became the region's largest Protestant cemetery of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The design was strongly influenced by America's Rural Cemetery Movement stressing that burying and commemorating the dead was best done in a tranquil, natural landscape set apart from urban life. These principals are reflected in Evergreen's garden setting and its winding roads and pathways. Many styles of funerary embellishments popular during the period are evidenced in large monuments, elegant statuary, ornamental plantings and formal landscaping. Grave marker iconography includes reclining lambs, praying angels, broken columns, Celtic crosses, flower motifs, Woodmen of the World "trees" and monuments featuring classical revival designs and shapes. Evergreen is the final resting place of Randolph Caldecott (1846-1886), considered the originator of children's picture books and after whom the national Caldecott Medal for distinguished children's picture book is named; and Heath Canfield (1849-1913), winner of the Congressional Medal. Castillo de San Marcos This national monument is often considered the crown jewel in the oldest city in America. Built by the Spanish in St. Augustine to defend Florida and the Atlantic trade route, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument preserves the oldest masonry fortification in the continental United States and interprets more than 450 years of cultural intersections. Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park Though some travelers found the attraction to be lackluster and not worth the entrance fee, most said it's an important archeological site worth checking out. Must-do components of the park include drinking from the Fountain of Youth and watching a cannon firing demonstration. Colonial Quarter Located on St. George Street in downtown St. Augustine's historic district, the Colonial Quarter offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of 16th-, 17th- and 18th-century residents. The living museum is divided into four areas: the 16th Century Spanish First City, the 17th Century Spanish Fortified Town, the 18th Century Spanish Garrison Town and the 18th Century British The 14th Colony. St. Augustine Beach Situated 5 miles southeast of St. Augustine's historic district, St. Augustine Beach features roughly 2 miles of white-sand beach and clear water. The beach is popular with families, thanks to its kid-friendly splash pad. If fishing or a relaxing stroll is what you're after, visit the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier, which sits at the north end of the beach. St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park Animal lovers of all ages will enjoy a visit to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. While here, visitors can explore the exhibits on their own and enjoy interactive wildlife shows and animal feedings, which are offered throughout the day. For an extra thrilling experience, be sure to pay a visit to Crocodile Crossing, a 7-acre, 35-foot-tall zip line course that soars over alligators and crocodiles.

Our stay was great! Having to evacuate from hurricane Milton was stressful but Christine made it such a breeze! The place looks just like the photos and the dual sides were perfect for my family. Definitely would stay again!
